One final activity this weekend was the gear lever install.
There was no particular reason to install the gear lever other than gaining some small wins over what has been a tough week in terms of the build.
I’d found the gear lever when tidying up and sorting through the parts, so it was fresh in my mind. Sadly I didn’t think to take any photos of the unit, so here is one from Caterham’s part website.
Installing is simple, although until you get the assembly perfectly lined up it won’t just drop in.
First of all you need to get the white cut out in the ball aligned to the front of the car, and matched up with the small bar that protrudes from the front of the housing, as shown in the image below.
You then need to guide the assembly down, keeping the white nylon washer level, keep it level until it slots into the metal circular aperture within the gear box. If you knock the nylon washer off centre it won’t sit in place. Once you get the lever down level and sat into place, add the spacer ring over the top and then the cover. Screw the cover down with the 3 retaining screws.
That’s it. Just watch out for the gear box oil, it stinks.
